Our night of football ends in crushing defeat
Our representatives in the Europa League and last night’s hosts, both Galatasaray and Fenerbahce suffered disappointing defeats in the return leg, despite having acquired advantages in the previous away games.
Galatasaray: 1 – Atletico Madrid: 2
Galatasaray had secured a 1-1 draw, to match the 1-1 from the game prior, and it appeared the game would be going into overtime. Then the referee ignored an obvious penalty call, which resulted infuriated Caner and inevitable led to his exit with a red card. Then, in the 90th minute, Forlan scored for Atletico Madrid, securing their spot to continue on in the Europa League.
Fenerbahce: 1 – Lille: 1
Lille won the first leg match by 2-1; therefore last night’s 1-1 draw resulted in securing Lille a spot in the next round. Hosts Fenerbahce took the lead with a goal by Emre; however Lille came in with a last minute shot, which secured them the win with a 1-1 draw.
