Turkey hosts Armenia tonight
A traditional song for both cultures, Sari Gelin, will be sung in the stands of the Turkey-Armenia World Cup Qualifier game tonight in Bursa as a message of peace. The game will kick off at 21:00 and will be broadcasted live on ATV.
The Governor of Bursa Sahabettin Harput has announced that 2,400 police will be on duty for the game tonight and security forces will not intervene with those who choose to wave Azerbaijan flags. According to sources, the fans in the tribunes for tonight’s game, for which 5000 tickets have been distributed, will sing a traditional song for both cultures. Yesterday, the maintenance crew were the only people allowed into the Ataturk Stadium as intense security measures were put in place by security forces for tonight’s game.
Fans have spent hours gathered in front of the stadium in order to be one of the 19,800 fans to witness tonight’s game. After hours of confusion over ticket distribution, fans were told that tribune leaders would be responsible for handing out tickets.
Tonight Bursa plays hosts to a historical game between Turkey and Armenia. Armenia’s President Sargsyan will first attend a dinner in his honor and will then watch the game alongside President Gul. Following the game, Gul will host a reception at the Almira Hotel in Sargsyan’s honor.
