Twenty-one million lira bill
After paying out seven million, seven-hundred and fifty thousand dollars for Delgado’s fee along with a guaranteed additional payout of six million dollars over two years, Besiktas’ technical director Denizli said ‘send him away’ after hearing that he will have to refrain from playing for the next six months.
With an upcoming surgery, Argentinean player Matias Delgado will be unable to play for the next six months. Reeling from the news, Besiktas is shocked at the high financial price they have had to pay. Besiktas paid out a transfer fee of 7,750,000$ on January 19th, 2009 and secured a two-year contract which provides Delgado with an annual income of 2.1 million euros. The result is that Besiktas, having paid out approximately 21 million liras for the Argentinean player, will not see reap a single benefit for the next six months.JULY 7TH OPERATION The experienced footballer is set to go under the knife on Tuesday, July 7th. Due to the fact that his injury has existed since the 2007-2008 season, and knowingly such a high payout was dished out by Besiktas, has been the source of criticism. Technical Director Denizli is disappointed in the player, who never requested permission to set up an operation date, and has decided to send him off. According to sources, Denizli stated; “He is out for six months, and then after that not much will happen. He wasn’t very productive last year either. We already have a foreign player quota problem. Therefore, if you can send him away, do so.” The probability of selling a player with such a high fee when he will be restricted from playing for a long time, however, appears to be low.
