In May, 2006 as Daum said goodbye to Fenerbahce, he had told SABAH “I will return.” Three years may have come and gone but the German coach has kept his promise. Daum will receive 3.5 million euros annually and will start next week.

Fenerbahce has yet to make an official announcement, however the team’s former coach Christoph Daum is coming back to be this season’s new technical director. Taking a stroll down memory lane, in the 34th week of the 2005-2006 season, Fenerbahce headed for Denizli with intentions of becoming the champions. However, when the game ended in a draw Galatasaray snagged the championship. Club President Aziz Yildirim was disappointed with the results, which resulted in Daum parting ways with the club. The successful German coach has not held a grudge and accepted Fenerbahce’s offer of a 2+1 year contract at 3.2 million euros annually. Fenerbahce is waiting until all ties with Aragones are cut before officially announcing Daum as the new incoming technical director.

HE HAD TOLD SABAH HE WOULD BE BACK

On May 18th, 2006 as Daum resigned from Fenerbahce, during an interview with SABAH he stated; “One day I will return. I love Fenerbahce’s fans and I will never forget them. If the administration ever changes their viewpoint then I would love to work with the team again.”

Overath: He has made a deal with Fenerbahce

Meanwhile; the fact that Daum has reached a new agreement with Fenerbahce has resulted in wide response in Germany. Koln Chair Wolfgang Overath made an announcement, stating; “Christoph Daum has made a deal with his previous team Fenerbahce.” Not only has Koln announced that Daum will not be coaching the team next season, according to sources the team administration has already held a meeting with former Galatasaray technical director Michael Skibbe.
