Reform package to be brought to the assembly in spring

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced that the reform package, which will include law amendments on a series of areas, will be brought to the Grand National Assembly by the end of March, however the constitutional amendment package, which includes items on judicial reform will be brought to the Assembly as soon as possible. 

Prime Minister Erdoğan made an announcement following yesterday’s Reform Tracking Group meeting, and pointed out that significant advances need to be made in this country on democracy, the supremacy of the law, and human rights.   

LEGISLATION IN A VARIETY OF AREAS 

Erdoğan went on to state the following; “a constitutional amendment package which pertains to these particulars will be brought to the Grand Assembly as soon as possible, and a reform package which will include law amendments in a variety of areas will be brought to parliament by the end of March.” 

IT WILL NOT BE AN A’ TO Z’ ALTERATION 

Erdoğan emphasized that this will not be an A’ to Z’ constitutional amendment and expressed that the opposition will be met with to discuss final steps. When Erdoğan was asked a question about the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) however, he responded by stating; “in Turkey, the legislative organ is not the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors.”
