Pakistan to follow Turkey’s religious school model
Pakistan hopes to use Turkey’s Imam Hatip religious high schools as a model.
The Pakistan administration, which is unhappy with the current religious education system in Pakistan consisting of ‘madrasahs,’ and fears they are directed towards breeding terrorists, has told Prime Minister Erdogan; “We want to benefit from your Imam Hatip religious high school model.”
During Prime Minister Erdogan’s trip to Islamabad, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Gilani expressed intentions to switch to a government supervised theological school system, as in Turkey, in order to replace the problematic madrasah’s. Gilani then expressed they were interested in Turkey’s Imam Hatip (religious high school) system.
HE GAVE HIMSELF AS AN EXAMPLE
Prime Minister Erdogan used himself as an example as he explained that these schools not only provide religious education but they also follow the curriculum adhered to by normal high schools, allowing for graduates from these schools to be able to pursue different fields and to establish careers of their choosing.
“I also attended an ‘Imam Hatip high school. Then I want on to study economics in university. I went all the way to the Prime Ministry…”
