Kurdish expansion clarified

President Abdullah Gül and Prime Minister Tayyip Erdoğan have both alluded to a new expansion on the Kurdish issue. Meanwhile, a senior official who sometimes attended National Security Council meetings has also announced, “there will be a number of new expansions on the Kurdish issue. These may include the demands that we put forth for Turks living in Europe. For example, Turks in Europe are able to name their children as they like, they are allowed to teach their children the language they choose and they are able to live according to their own inherent cultures. We need to allow our citizens of Kurdish origins to have the same rights that Turks are granted in Germany and Austria.”  The “German Model” encompasses the following qualities:

NAMES: Turks in Europe are able to name the children however they choose, however in Turkey names which contain the Kurdish letters "q, w, x" are not allowed.

LANGUAGE:
Turks in Europe have the right to learn their own native language. In fact, some German schools even provide supplemental education in Turkish. Therefore, the issue of allowing Kurdish as an elective course in schools may be brought to the agenda.
RELIGION: Turks have religious freedom in Germany. The Directorate of Religious Affairs should structurally organize various religious devotions.

ORGANIZATION:
Turks in Europe have the right to organize and are able to be members of any association they choose and are able to hold up signs that read slogans in their own language. Kurds should have the same rights.

TV:
In Germany as well as other EU nations, there are radio stations, television channels and newspapers that provide broadcasts and publishing in Turkish. In the same manner, all obstacles blocking Kurdish publications should be lifted.
