Report on Istanbul’s earthquake outlook is eye-opening
Earthquake Commission Chairman Idris Güllüce has released information regarding a report prepared in Japan on the outlook of an earthquake in Istanbul.
“It may take 22 days to recover bodies from the rubble. The biggest problems will be experienced due to buildings built with sea sand.”
Speaking to SABAH, Güllüce stated that not only did the report issue severe warnings for all historical buildings in Istanbul, but it was also stated that it would take 22 days to recover bodies in certain neighborhoods. Idris Güllüce also stated; “This report has rocked me and I now have trouble sleeping.”
According to Güllüce; “The biggest problems arise from the building of additional stories onto single-story homes with no infrastructure, which is the case in a majority of immigrant neighborhoods. In addition, the usage of sea sand poses a severe threat in the case of an earthquake.”
