As the Prime Minister heads for a vacation; he states ‘May 1st’ should be made a holiday
Following the marathon of both the local elections and the nation’s recent intense agenda, Prime Minister Erdogan stated; “Please allow me this, I need to have the opportunity to listen to my thoughts while spending time with my family.” While announcing he plans to take a vacation, Prime Minister Erdoğan also delivered important messages from Istanbul.
Prime Minister Tayyip Erdoğan informed Minister of Labor and Social Security, Faruk Çelik that he had made a request to speak with labor confederations regarding declaring May 1st to be a public holiday. Following a meeting held with three ministers in his home in Üsküdar and after making an assessment on the Istanbul District election results, Erdoğan then answered questions from the press. After one journalist brought up holding meetings with ministers, Erdoğan responded by stating: “Focusing on the EU accession process, we want to get the Union Law and Labor Agreement out of the Parliament as soon as possible. Another issue is one that is brought up every first of May, and that is announcing May 1st as a public holiday. Tomorrow, our Minister will meet with Türk-İş, Hak-İş and DİSK to discuss this. I have given specific orders regarding this issue. I told them to 'discuss this issue with Labor confederations and to deliberate on the subject of announcing May 1st as a public holiday." The Prime Minister also emphasized that a new economic package was a non-issue. In response to questions regarding a cabinet revision, PM Erdoğan stated: "An election is not necessary in order to conduct a cabinet revision. Choosing the right time in every country is at the Prime Minister discretion. In fact, I may take such a step within the Council of Ministers. However, will this step be taken this week, or later, well, that is something we will all find out together.” Erdoğan was also asked a question about relations with Armenia and the response delivered by Azerbaijani President Haydar Aliyev. Erdoğan responded by stating, "As long as Azerbaijan and Armenia have not surpassed this tension, it will make it difficult for Turkey and Armenia to overcome this process, and if we are now discussing certain lower level technicalities, it is due to the fact that we are preparing for the process between Azerbaijan and Armenia to deal with the matter a little bit ahead.”
PM WILL TAKE A BREAK IN DENIZLI
Regarding the accusations that AKP’S Diyarbakır Deputy İhsan Arslan has conducted ‘propaganda for terrorism’ and prepared reports, Erdoğan stated; “I do not believe that our Deputy comrades would in any way promote terrorism nor use any terms that would openly bring a terrorist organization to the table.” Upon reminding that he plans to take a vacation, Erdoğan expressed; “Every leader in the world has the right to rest. I am also human, and I have a family. Please allow me the opportunity to spend time with my family and to listen to my own thoughts after the recent intense election marathon.” The Prime Minister shared that he plans to vacation inside the nation, and it has been learned that he will stay in the Umut Thermal hotel located in Denizli's Sarayköy district. Erdoğan had chosen the same location to take a vacation following the 2007 parliamentary general elections.
