Now, the suffering of migration
Residents of Elazığ’s surrounding villages, which were hit hard from the recent quake and have been forced to endure the rain and cold weather in tents, are moving to provincial and district centers. The Elazığ governorship has now initiated an aid campaign.
Elazığ residents suffering from damage incurred by the quake have been spending the night in tents. As if the cold weather was not enough, the heavy overnight downpours have doubled their suffering. A number of Elazığ residents, having lost their homes, property and even families are choosing to migrate from the region. Aftershocks continue to rattle in the Okçular village located in the Kovancılar district. Efforts to build prefabricated homes in the village have been expedited. Meanwhile, a number of families are choosing to load up their remaining furniture in trucks and are simply deserting the village for now. The migrating villagers say they will return once TOKİ, Turkey’s Housing and Development Administration, has completed the residencies they will be building.
