Six juveniles are being charged with 20-year sentences after being arrested by police forces for throwing stones at police because they were sweaty.

Six children between the ages of 13 -16 were arrested two months ago for throwing stones and Molotov cocktails at police officers and are being charged for committing crimes in the name of a terrorist organization and face up to 20 years’ imprisonment. According to the indictment, the evidence stated in the police report was that “the children had been chased and they were all sweaty.” The juveniles have all denied the charges, one of which, H.B. stated; “They told me that my hands were dirty and I was also sweaty, and then they arrested me.” The young boys claim they were on their way to play football and had just lit a fire.

The six juveniles arrested in Diyarbakır are facing a combined 120 years’ sentence. Despite the evidence shown being dirty hands and perspiration, two months ago the six juveniles ranging from 13-16 years in age, were arrested for participating in demonstrations in Bingöl protesting PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s prison conditions. The children are facing ten years each for ‘committing a crime for an illegal organziation’ and five years each for ‘breaking the demonstration and marching law’ and an additional five years for ‘conducting organziation propaganda.’ The indictment requests they be tried to the fullest because they are being accused of throwing Molotov Cocktails. The trial for the six children will begin in the upcoming days and will be held in a Special Authority High Criminal Court.
