Doğramacı laid to rest in state ceremony

Prof. İhsan Doğramacı was laid to rest with an official state ceremony held in Ankara yesterday.

The ceremony, which was held in the Doğramacızade Ali Paşa Mosque’s courtyard, was attended by President Abdullah Gül, Prime Minister Erdoğan and CHP Leader Deniz Baykal as well as chief of staff General İlker Başbuğ.  

Professor İhsan Doğramacı passed away on Thursday at the age of 95. He is credited as being the first Chairman for the Higher Board of Education, as well as founding both Hacettepe and Bilkent universities.  

The ceremony for Prof. Dr. İhsan Doğramacı brought together the pillars of the state, including the President, Speaker of the Assembly, Chief of General Staff a number of ministers and members of the main opposition parties.
