Arriving in Turkey for the Formula-1 and the “Fashion for Relief” campaign, top model Naomi Campbell met with Emine Erdogan in the capital. Expressing her admiration for Emine Erdogan’s efforts for Palestinian children harmed from the war, Campbell expressed intentions to collect donations that she would give to Emine Erdogan to use wherever she chooses. Held in the Prime Ministry Official Residence, during the meeting, the issue of racism was also brought up. Campbell mentioned that up until quite recently in the US, African Americans were not allowed to get on buses; “but now there is a black US President,” she emphasized. Referring to Barack Obama, Erdogan responded by stating; “He showed how much importance he placed on us by crossing the ocean to pay his first trip to Turkey. The fact the he delivered certain messages from Turkey pleased us greatly. We are hopeful of Obama.” During the discussion which lasted two hours, Campbell, who explained her “Fashion for Relief” campaign, told Erdogan; “I will collect donations and you can distribute them however you choose.” Erdogan then shared information on her campaign, which has resulted in providing education opportunities for over 300,000 girls. Campbell asked why there was a problem with education in Turkey, to which Erdogan brought up issues such as the lack of schools and classes, family economic troubles, and girls being married off at a young age.
