Three explosions in Istanbul
Three bomb explosions, including noise bombs, took place in Istanbul last night. Children are also amongst those wounded.
A small bomb and two noise bombs were set off in three different districts in Istanbul yesterday. A small bomb exploded in Kağıthane yesterday and two noise bombs were set off in both Beyoğlu and Şişli. The explosion that took place in Beyoğlu resulted in wounding five people, three of which are children. A bomb left in front of a market in Kağıthane in a decorated package put police on alert.The first explosion took place at approximately 20:30 in Şişli. Police went on alert after the noise bomb, which had been placed in the Mecidiyeköy Viyaduct, exploded. Due to the fact that the explosion took place just 50 meters distance from the District Police Office, security forces took intensive measures along Büyükdere Caddesi. Citizens were rerouted until the investigation was concluded. A suspicious package which was left in front of a BIM Market located on Kağıthane Aslangazi Caddesi Anayurt Sokak, was detonated by police forces, who realized after closer inspection that the package had been fakely decorated to resemble a bomb. The explosion that took place in Beyoğlu’s Akman Sokak last night at approximately 21:30, took place in front of an internet café and resulted in wounding five people that were passing by at the time. Out of the five injured, Mehmet Emin Gürhas (6), Şevval İkra Avcı (4), İrem Nur Avcı (6), Serhat Topuz and Mustafa Zom, three were children. The victims were taken to the Okmeydanı Education and Research Hospital, and are said to be in good condition. A citizen that witnessed the explosion described the incident. “I was in the internet café at the time; I heard a huge explosion of sound. When we went outside we saw three people had been injured, two of which were children. I took them to the Okmeydanı Education and Research Hospital. One of the people had been hurt in the eye and the two children were wounded in their legs.”
A small bomb later exploded in Kağıthane’s Talatpaşa Neighborhood on Aslangazi Caddesi. It had been placed in front of the Sadabat Clinic and exploded at approximately 22:00. Fortunately no one was hurt in the bomb explosion.
