Alanya on flood alert

Information has been released that one of the covers of the Dim Barrage located in Alanya has been dislocated. It is estimated that there is a population of 15 to 20 thousand residing within the dam’s close surroundings.

It has been made known that one of the covers of the Dim Barrage, which started operations on January 17th of this year and is located in Antalya's Alanya district, has shifted and that a large amount of water is leaking into Dim Brook, therefore citizens residing in the region are being warned to be on alert.

AN ANNOUNCEMENT WAS MADE TO CITIZENS

Alanya District Official Hulusi Dogan has announced that one of the dam’s covers has begun to leak water into the Dim Brook region, due to an as of yet undetermined reason. District Official Dogan stated that an announcement has been made to residents in the region warning them to be on alert. Dogan also noted that there is no immediate threat or need for evacuation at this point in time.  

District Official Dogan, who is further looking into the current situation at the Dim Barrage stated; “An announcement was made in order to alert citizens of a potentially dangerous situation, however at this time, there does not appear to be a serious problem.”

Meanwhile, the gendarmerie has closed the lower level roads leading to the Dim Barrage to traffic. Journalists wanting to access the Dim Barrage were directed to use the higher level road.

The Dim Barrage was completed at the end of last year and began water collecting operations on January 17th, 2009 with a wide opening ceremony; therefore the dam had not yet reached full capacity.
