Police find munitions in a civilian truck in the capital
Upon receiving a tip-off, police forces tracked a truck with a civilian license plate in Ümitköy, en route to Ankara and discovered it was carrying weapons and bombs.
Last night the capital was the scene of a surprising discovery. Anti-Terrorism teams pulled a civilian truck over at the Ümitköy-Mesa junction after receiving a warning, and discovered it was carrying a significant load of weapons, including 900 hand grenades, loaded in the truck’s bed and covered with a tarp.
It was later revealed that the weapon-filled truck had actually been rented by the Turkish Armed Forces and the weapons were being carried on a specific order. According to military officials, the truck had arrived from Mugla and was carrying weaponry belonging to the Turkish Armed Forces on a routine dispatch. The munitions were claimed to be carried by a civilian vehicle for security purposes. Three individuals in the truck, two of which were soldiers, were questioned late into the night at the police department before they were released. The truck was later transported to the Special Forces Command in Golbasi.
Metin Karaoglu, the owner of the company which operates the truck, stated that the company transports items for the Turkish Armed Forces through tenders.
Meanwhile, CHP and MHP deputies state: ‘The incident must be brought to light’
As CHP’s Suha Okay stated that light must be shed on the incident, MHP’s Oktay Vural responded by stating; “I am puzzled.”
