Turkey’s art world loses significant veteran

Photographer and IKSV (Istanbul’s Foundation of Culture and Arts) Chairman Şakir Eczacıbaşı has passed away at the age of 81, leaving the art world in mourning.

Ara Guler stated; “Photography is left without its most important artist.” 

Şakir Eczacıbaşı, the recipient of a ‘Superior State Service Award,’ had been struggling with leukemia for the past two years, and was receiving treatment at Istanbul’s American Hospital. 

Şakir Eczacıbaşı will be laid to rest on Tuesday, January 26th at the Zincirlikuyu Cemetery following a prayer service at the Teşvikiye Mosque.
