Tekel workers have put an end to the hunger strike which began on February 2nd.

Although the majority of Tekel workers had already stopped participating in the hunger strike, 16 workers were continuing on their own accord. Meanwhile, the Tek Gıda-İş Sendikası, the union which Tekel workers were tied to, is preparing to apply to the State Council to appeal certain items in the 4C article.

After 65 days of demonstrations staged in Ankara, yesterday Tekel workers were offered support from Istanbul. Thirty-five members of the Socialist Democracy Party and the Social Freedom Platform took over the Cervantes Institute located in Tarlabaşı, Beyoğlu, hanging signs and banners of solidarity from the building’s windows and balcony.
